Maersk Restructures Asia - Europe Network with Port Swaps and New Shipping Routes

According to the company's announcement, Maersk will implement a comprehensive overhaul of its Asia-Europe shipping network starting April 2026, realigning port rotations on key shipping lanes and redirecting shipping capacity towards northern European gateways.

These changes affect numerous AE services routing via the Cape of Good Hope and signal a decisive rebalancing of port coverage, with northern Europe gaining priority as several Mediterranean and North Africa stops are reduced or eliminated.

On the AE1 service, Antwerp port is added to the itinerary while Tangier TC1 port is removed, focusing more on key Northern European shipping hubs alongside Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Rotterdam, Hamburg, London Gateway, and Tangier TC3. The AE2 service remains unchanged.

The AE3 service is re-adjusted to prioritize northern Europe, adding Yantian, Aarhus, Gothenburg, and Southampton while removing Ningbo and Algeciras, essentially diverting the shipping lane away from reliance on southern gateways. The AE5 service is also reconfigured, bringing Ningbo and Algeciras into the port rotation, while repositioning Bremerhaven ahead of Hamburg and eliminating Yantian, Aarhus, and Gothenburg, strengthening the service's port network.

The AE11 service remains unchanged. In the Mediterranean segment, the AE12 service replaces Port Said East and Colombo ports with Algeciras and Singapore, while the AE15 service drops Izmit and Istanbul to be replaced by Damietta and Colombo, with Turkey repositioned into transshipment coverage via Port Said and Damietta.

The carrier leaves open the possibility of returning the AE12 and AE15 services to the Red Sea and Suez Canal in the future when conditions allow.

The network redesign enhances schedule integrity and shipping flexibility between Asia and Europe, while concentrating stops at high-volume cargo gateways.
